California is a book in the Oxford Bookworms series. It's in the Factfiles sub-series, the nonfiction counterpart of the Oxford Bookworms Library. It's Stage 2 books. The book is divided into nine chapters: The Golden State, The Gold Rush, San Francisco, Parks, Highway 1, Los Angeles, The Desert, San Diego, California...
The book as a whole has 19 pages, and each chapter comprises about 2 pages. The sentences are quite easy, with about 10-20 words a sentence. Most sentences are simple in structure, with few or no embedded clauses. The vocabulary is also quite simple, with few words that typical learners will need to look up in a dictionary.
The chapters that appealed to me the most are Chapter 4: Parks and Chapter 7: The Desert. The bulk of this review will be devoted to these two chapters.
California has many natural places to go sightseeing. California is the home of some of the oldest and biggest trees in the world. There are Yosemite National Park, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks or Lake Tahoe. Humboldt Redwoods State Park is a twenty million year-old forest. Lake Tahoe is 35 kilometres long and 19 kilometres across. We can play water sports there and can ski in the winter. I like skiing, so I want to go to the place like this place for skiing. East of Los Angeles is the Mojave Desert. It begins in Antelope Valley where , between March and May, you can see hundreds of California poppies. It is very beautiful place!! 254
